Herbaceous seeps on both sides of this spruce woodland are dominated by Carex gynandra. Downslope are abandoned beaver ponds which support herbaceous communities. Upland forest are spruce and northern hardwoods.;Spruce woodland on a slightly elevated "spit" which extends into a more open wetland between 2 seepage sloughs. Some spruce are killed , possibly by beaver flooding and by "seepage burn". Understory is dominated by spruce reproduction, Vaccinium angustifolium, Vaccinium erythrocarpum, Gaultheria hispidula, and Sphagnum spp. Marginal wetland.
Representativeness
Plot crosses the width of this small patch community type which occurs on even more narrow spits. Elsewhere we have seen similar stands with shrub layer dominated by Vaccinium myrtilloides.
